IF Your wound spoke to you.
In the innovative startup program at SCAD, I took part in a challenge to produce a unique project within a mere five days. This was our starting point. Our team delved deeply into various avenues, keen on identifying a critical yet often overlooked issue. It was then that we discovered the crucial matter of wound management. While many are acquainted with the basic notion of wound care, the intricate complexities and implications of improper wound management are often dismissed by the masses. Chronic wounds, if left untreated or mismanaged, can lead to severe complications, prolonged healing times, and can greatly impact the quality of life. We believe that every wound deserves attention, every patient deserves personalized and humanistic care, and every individual should have access to quality wound care.
Over the past two years, the United States has witnessed 13 million surgical procedures. Alarming statistics reveal that 17.3% of these patients developed wound infections following their surgeries. Such infections can lead to severe complications, prolonged recovery periods, and increased medical costs. Moreover, for individuals living alone, managing and recognizing the symptoms of these infections becomes even more challenging.
This user journey map is a great visualization of the pain points of the client's household, which you can find in the fact that the problem often occurs after they have received treatment. Many people don't know how to take care of their wounds scientifically, and even more people never pay attention to this wound management process.
